mein Name ist Zufit Simon, Zufit ist der Vorname, Simon der Nachname, das ist verwirrend, ich weiß… Der Name ist ungewöhnlich, er kommt aus Israel, wo ich geboren bin, Zufit bedeutet Kolibri, der kleinste Vogel der Welt, ich bin aber alles andere als klein, das ist aber schon eine andere Geschichte…
Ich bin Choreografin, Tänzerin und Performerin, und in meinem neuesten Stück „Radical Cheerleading“, das am 16., 17. und 18. Februar im schwere reiter gezeigt wird, stehe ich mit auf der Bühne, bin also in einer Doppelrolle unterwegs. In dieser Produktion sind wir ein internationales Team von fünf Performer:innen und einem Live-Musiker. Wir müssen sehr gut aufeinander hören, da es bei diesem Stück besonders auf exaktes Timing und Rhythmus ankommt.
Aufgabe der Cheerleader war ja ursprünglich das Anfeuern der eigenen Sportmannschaft und die Animation des anwesenden Publikums bei Veranstaltungen und Wettkämpfen, beispielsweise beim Football oder Basketball, es ist aber zu einem selbständigen Wettkampfsport geworden. Entwickelt wurde „Radical Cheerleading“ von queer-feministischen Aktivist:innen in den 1990er Jahren, es ist ein performativer politischer Aktivismus, eine Protestform, um eigene Botschaften zu übermitteln. Mit Hilfe von Pompons, Glamour, Glitter, einer gewissen Ironie und verschiedenen Slogans treten wir auf die Bühne und ergreifen das Wort:

my name is Zufit Simon, Zufit is the first name, Simon is the last name, it’s confusing, I know…. The name is unusual, it comes from Israel where I was born, Zufit means hummingbird, the smallest bird in the world, I am anything but small, but that’s another story….
I am a choreographer, dancer and performer, and in my latest piece „Radical Cheerleading“, which will be shown at schwere reiter on 16, 17 and 18 February, I am also on stage, so I am in a double role. In this production we are an international team of five performers and a live musician. We have to listen to each other very well, because this piece is all about exact timing and rhythm.
The cheerleaders‘ job was originally to cheer on their own sports team and to animate the audience present at events and competitions, for example football or basketball, but it has become a competitive sport in its own right. Developed by queer feminist activists in the 1990s, „radical cheerleading“ is a performative political activism, a form of protest to convey one’s own message. With the help of pompoms, glamour, glitter, a certain irony and various slogans, we step on stage and take the floor:
